A Somali official says the country’s military have killed a top Al shabaab commander during an operation in a small town in Gedo region on Sunday, according to a report filed by Shaballe News.
The report said, the commander, Abdullahi Qanas, was killed in an special operation by Somali military at Tulo-Barwaqo area, about 18Km away from Gedo regional capital.
The Somali military officials said the army launched the raid following a tip-off from local residents who spotted the commander and his fellow militants sneaked into the village.
The federal government troops managed to capture another commander in charge of training Al shabaab fighters in Gedo region during the operation in Tulo-Barwaqo near Kenya border, the report said.
