A study by the rights group, Amnesty International, conducted since 2011 has found that at least 5000 Oromo people are in prison in Ethiopia.
Claire Beston, the investigator and Amnesty International’s Ethiopia researcher said to ESAT that the number could even be more than this had the Ethiopian government allowed international and local media and human rights organisations in the Country.
Dr. Merara Gudina, the leader of the Oromo Federalist Congress, said the figure reported by Amnesty International is small. He said in Ambo and Wollega areas alone over 5000 members of an Oromo origin are imprisoned.
